Financial Stress and Wellness: Understanding the Problem

Money-related worries top the list of respondents’ concerns in Everyday Health’s United States of Stress survey.

Financial concerns are far and away Americans’ leading source of stress, according to the United States of Stress survey conducted by Everyday Health. Why is that? What is the toll of all this financial stress? What are the challenges to achieving financial wellness? For this report, Everyday Health surveyed more than 6,700 men and women about what causes them stress and how they cope. Of those polled, 52 percent of respondents said financial issues regularly stressed them out — well above the 35 percent who cited jobs and careers, the next most common stressor.
